On October 29, 1923, the Republic was proclaimed at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and Mustafa Kemal Pasha was elected as the first President. This date is the founding day of the Republic of Turkey. In 1925, it was declared a national holiday by Law No. 628 and is considered the most important national holiday of Turkey. The eve (October 28) is a half-day holiday in the afternoon.
