History

Made Official In: 1924

On August 30, 1922, the Turkish army under the command of Mustafa Kemal Pasha defeated the Greek forces at Dumlupınar in the Great Offensive. This victory determined the military outcome of the Turkish War of Independence and paved the way for the Treaty of Lausanne. In 1924, it was officially declared as 'Victory Day'. It is also celebrated as Turkish Armed Forces Day.
